1960 GibsonSG Special (Prototype) – Cherry

This might look like ‘just’ another SG at a quick glance. However, this 1960 Gibson SG Special in Cherry actually features a non-beveled, prototypical body design! After moving on from the traditional, earlier Les Paul body shape, Gibson experimented with a new design. Since this is an early example, one can assume they were trying to stay in the same style as the slab-body Les Paul Juniors and Specials with no bevels. This guitar would’ve been a stepping stone to the SG design we all know and love, and because of this, we have never seen another! It even has a crown inlay on the headstock, rather than the Les Paul silkscreen. Not only is this a fantastic playing and sounding guitar, but it tells a truly historic piece of Gibson’s history and the development process during their Golden Age. Plus, it comes in a brown case!
