1968 AmpegAUB-1 (Fretless) – Red/Black
This all-original 1968 Ampeg AUB-1 has to be one of the most unique basses in our shop, and we absolutely love it! The AEB-1 (fretted) and the AUB-1 (fretless or “unfretted”) were the first two production basses to come out of Ampeg’s factory in Linden, New Jersey, in the mid to late 1960s. Far fewer fretless AUB models were made compared to the fretted AEB, so unmodified and playable examples like this one are hard to come by. Fortunately, this example is in great cosmetic and playable condition! These basses were designed to work with practically any string material in mind, and this piece is currently equipped with nylon strings for a soft, slinky, traditional feel and a superb sound plugged in. This model is the near-perfect bridge between upright and modern bass playing with a distinct look and feel!
