1964 FenderCustom Telecaster – Crushed Glass (Ex George Fullerton)

This 1964 Fender Custom Telecaster in its original “crushed glass” finish is a sparkling treasure, and only three original examples were ever made! This finish was devised especially for Buck Owens and fellow Buckaroos’ guitar player Don Rich as a sign of appreciation from Fender for the pair using the Telecaster to create their signature “Bakersfield Sound.” Both Owens and Rich can be seen playing their matching Telecasters on various television shows throughout the 1960s. A third was made for Fender Executive George Fullerton, and that example is the one we have here now! The finish has a very textured feel to it, as it is made with actual mirror glass that was crushed for this appearance! The headstock also features this same finish.  The finish has patina’d since then to a more golden hue, but still sparkles in the light. Both the top and bottom of the body are bound with “cowboy rope” patterned binding that just takes it to another level. Although we can’t be sure, it is rumored this trio of Telecasters featured the first maple cap necks Fender made. If you’re looking for that ultimate Tele showpiece, this is the one for you!
