1967 GibsonEverly Brothers – Black
Introduced in 1962, the Gibson Everly Brothers model was created in collaboration with the legendary duo The Everly Brothers. Gibson’s used their J-185 as the foundation for the design. This artist-endorsed model has become highly sought after by collectors and players alike. Among its standout features are elegant mother-of-pearl star inlays, oversized dual “mustache” pickguards, and a striking black finish, which was an uncommon look that set it apart from most acoustics of the era. This example presents exceptionally well for its age, showing only a handful of minor nicks and dings along with light finish checking, all consistent with proper love and care over the decades. A common issue with Everly Brothers models is pickguard off-gassing, but this guitar luckily shows no signs of that issue currently. There is one repaired top crack near the treble side end of the fingerboard and pickguard area, which has been professionally glued and stabilized. A strap button has been added to the heel, but otherwise the guitar remains original. It is also accompanied by the original bill of sale and the original payoff book from the store where it was purchased. An interesting thing about this guitar is that the stamped headstock serial number and the label serial number do not match. This is not a rare occurrence for Gibson during this period and is documented in the 1991 appraisal, which is also included with the guitar. With its iconic appearance, originality, and excellent overall condition, this is a superb example of one of Gibson’s most distinctive and earliest artist-model acoustics!
