1964 GibsonFirebird III – Cherry Sunburst
Get a load of this rare bird! This all-original 1964 Gibson Firebird III was custom-ordered in Cherry Sunburst, a finish we have never seen on another Firebird! While we have come across a few “see-through” cherry-finished birds, none of them were “burst” quite like this. Gibson launched its custom color Firebirds to compete with Fender’s iconic color options; however, Cherry Sunburst was never listed among these finish options. It’s the perfect overlay to this mahogany body and neck, highlighting the beautiful grain and dynamic shape of the Firebird. Beyond the finish, this guitar remains remarkably clean, with a bit of wear here and there to denote its age. As a III, this Firebird features two mini humbuckers and a short vibrola. These two pickups may be tiny, but they are mighty!
