1966 GibsonFirebird VII – Inverness Green/Pelham Blue
Check out the patina and check on this 1966 Gibson Non-Reverse Firebird VII! As you can see, the wear on this piece shows a good amount of Blue, particularly on the back and edges of the guitar. The vibe is simply off the charts on this guitar, with checking, wear, and patina throughout this piece. Only 46 Firebird VIIs were shipped in 1966, making it that much cooler! Honestly, it’s tough to tell whether this Firebird is Pelham or Inverness. Back in the day, we heard from Gibson employees who were working in the factory at the time that in the earlier years of making Inverness Green, Gibson would first spray Pelham Blue and top it off with yellow-tinted clear to get their Green shade. That can make it hard to identify earlier Inverness guitars, which is why we always look inside the guitar. On this guitar, the areas protected from UV light, such as under the guard and the control cavities, are green! This makes it hard to pinpoint the exact color, so what do you think?
