1958 FenderPrecision Bass – Sunburst
Now and then, an instrument comes along that truly amazes us here at Well Strung, and this 1958 Precision Bass is one of those exceptional finds! After playing it for just 20 seconds, we knew we couldn’t let it slip by, and if you’re a fan of basses with that undeniable “magic,” we guarantee you’ll feel the same way. This ‘58 P-Bass boasts a stunning, naturally worn-in appearance that the custom shop wishes they could achieve. With a 12/57 body date and a 2/58 neck date, it features several early appointments, including raised A pole pieces, a gold anodized pickguard, and a hard V neck profile that’s been played down to almost a soft V. When we received it, harness had been replaced, so we sourced an original 1958 harness with pots dating to the 25th week of 1958, along with an original “phonebook” capacitor to make it right. Aside from that, the bass remains all original, and surprisingly, the original frets are still intact. They show some wear but still have plenty of life left, so we’re leaving the decision of whether to replace them up to the next owner. The bass is also incredibly lightweight and resonant, making it a fantastic option for both players and collectors alike, so don’t let this one slip by!
