1965 GibsonSG Special – Cherry

This 1965 Gibson SG Special in its original Cherry finish features a factory Ebony Block! The majority of Gibsons fitted with an ebony block left the factory in 1962, but we’ve seen factory-installed tailpieces later into the 1960s. This guitar was favored by its former owners; not only evidenced by the playwear throughout, but because it also features an engraved truss rod cover with what we presume is a prior owner’s name. While the truss rod cover itself is correct for this period and original, we’re not quite sure about the history of the person whose name is engraved on it or when the engraving was done. It is engraved “Stan Johnson 1963” and we have no way of knowing the significance of the year. These hot P90s scream, yet clean up nicely for a dark, full tone. The slim neck shape lets you fly up and down the neck with ease, and this original large fretwire still has plenty of life left. This guitar is fully original except for a replaced switch tip, and completely free of any breaks or repairs.
