1966 FenderStratocaster – Fiesta Red (Bound Fretboard)
This incredibly rare 1966 Fender Stratocaster in Fiesta Red features a factory original, bound fretboard! The exact production numbers of these bound fretboard Stratocasters are unknown, but we speculate that it’s about 15 or less, making this guitar an extraordinary find. Written in this guitar’s neck pocket are the words “Show” and “Picture” indicating that it was used in Fender advertisements and/or featured at a Trade Show. Funny enough, there is a bound-neck Fiesta Red Stratocaster in the 1966-67 catalog! Although we can’t say with certainty, we believe this is that exact guitar, due to the words in the neck pocket. We obtained this guitar from the original owner, who purchased it new in 1967. He enjoyed playing it, but also took great care in maintaining it, leaving some light playwear throughout and some buckle rash. It was professionally refretted in the mid-1990s, and the replaced frets still have plenty of life left in them. The nut was also replaced at this time to ensure excellent playability. Before the original owner purchased the guitar, the front of the headstock was over-sprayed to lock in the decals, but there is no other overspray present on the guitar.
