1969 FenderTelecaster – “Candy Apple Red” (Special)
This 1969 Fender Telecaster features a matching headstock and a “special” shade of Candy Apple Red! This guitar is one of a kind, with the neck marked “Special Color” to denote its rarity. Fender typically used matching headstocks on their offset models, so seeing a Telecaster with one is uncommon. This CBS-era logo stands out on the red headstock and has developed a lovely patina with age. We’d describe it as more of a gold-tinted red, with a copper look due to the yellowing of the clear coat. Next to the bridge, you will be able to see an area of wear down to the wood, showing just how complex this finish is. It is layered silver, red, silver, red. Typically, a Candy Apple Red guitar would have received one layer of a metallic undercoat and one layer of translucent red. The overall finish is in good shape, and this is most likely the only Telecaster out there that looks like this!
