1968 FenderTelecaster – “Dayglo”
Here’s a hauntingly rare custom finish; check out this completely original 1968 Fender Telecaster in its “Ghost” or “Dayglo” finish! Still, in the afterglow of the ’67 Summer of Love, Fender shifted their gears from the Surf scene towards the hippie movement, which was still in full swing. Very few of these “Ghost” Telecasters were made for that year’s NAMM show; in fact, we are aware of only two; this one features a “Floral” pattern, and the other has a “Swirled” pattern. The guitar looks inconspicuous enough in regular lighting, but when lit with UV light, the guitar completely comes to life. The hand-painted flowers light up, and the neck/headstock pops as it’s covered in UV-reactive paint! Despite the crazy finish, the guitar is an excellent instrument, with rounded edges for super comfortable playing. This one has been featured in various publications, including an article we did with Guitarist Magazine.
