1967 FenderThinline Telecaster Prototype – Natural
This prototypical 1967 Fender Telecaster is completely one of a kind! It features a spruce top, zebrawood back and sides, and a maple cap neck. The body is double-bound, like a Custom Telecaster, which helps join the different pieces of wood used for the sides, back, and top. The inner design is similar to a Thinline, as it is built with a center block, although it lacks an f-hole. This gives the appearance of a solid body while remaining remarkably light at just 4 lbs 15 oz. This guitar was likely an experiment, built in the R&D department as a prototype for the Thinine Telecaster. We believe this guitar to be one of the many projects Roger Rossmeisl and Phil Kubicki were working on at Fender during the late 60s/early 70s. As a one-off guitar, this Tele is well-documented and featured in Fender: The Golden Age 1946-1970 (Kelly et al.) and The Fender Telecaster (Duchossoir).
